The main material of metal glasses

The metal materials used for spectacle frames are copper alloys, nickel alloys and precious metals. It is required to have certain hardness, softness, elasticity, wear   resistance, corrosion resistance, light weight, luster and good color, etc. Therefore, the metal materials used to make spectacle frames are almost all alloys or used after metal surface processing.

1. Cupronickel spectacle frame (copper-zinc alloy):

The main components are 64% copper, 18% zinc, and 18% nickel. The frame material is the easiest to process. Electroplating is mainly used to make hinge wires, etc., small parts and low-grade.

2. High nickel alloy spectacle frame:

The nickel content is as high as more than 80%, mainly including nickel-chromium alloy, nickel alloy, etc. High-nickel alloy has better corrosion resistance, and the material has good elasticity.

3. Monel frame:

Nickel-copper alloy: The nickel content reaches 63% and the copper is about 28%. In addition, there are other small amounts of metals such as iron and copper,   especially: corrosion resistance, high strength, and strong welding. It is the most widely used material for mid-range frames.

4. Pure titanium spectacle frame:

Titanium has a specific gravity of only 4.5, is very corrosion-resistant, and is twice as strong as steel. It is used to make space shuttle cases, etc.

It is called "space metal" and has no metal allergies. Early titanium materials were difficult to cut and weld. Problems, with the development of technology, these   problems have been gradually solved. In the Japanese market, titanium materials have become the mainstream, and titanium materials in the European and American   markets are mainly from Japan. Titanium frames are generally expressed as Ti-P or TiTAN, and are basically made of titanium except for wires, hinges, and screws.

5. Memory titanium alloy glasses frame:

It refers to a new alloy composed of nickel and titanium at an atomic ratio of 1:1. It is 25% lighter than ordinary alloys and has the same corrosion resistance as titanium.

In addition, it has very good elasticity. Memory titanium alloy: it exhibits shape memory characteristics below 0°C, and exhibits high elasticity at 0-40°C.

The corrosion resistance of memory titanium material is higher than that of Monel alloy and Gaojin alloy, but it is better than pure titanium and βTitanium is slightly   inferior.

6. β-TiTAN titanium alloy:

Refers to a special alloy formed by mixing pure chromium (70%) and rare metals such as copper and chromium (30%).

The ultra-light and ultra-elastic frame can be made very thin.

Because the alloys of rare metals such as diamond and chromium are very stable and will not cause skin allergies, there will be greater development and popularity in the next few decades.

7. Gold-clad frame:

The process is to add solder or direct mechanical bonding between the surface metal and the substrate. Compared with electroplating, the surface metal layer of the   cladding material is thicker, and it also has a bright appearance, good durability and corrosion resistance. Representation of gold cladding number: According to the   regulations of the International Precious Metals Conference, products with a weight ratio of gold and alloy of 1/20 or more are represented by GF; products below 1/20   are represented by GP.

Because the content of the article is limited, here is just a simple classification of metal glasses materials.

In fact, glasses of different materials are different, and can be classified in more detail. We just hope that through this article, we can have a general understanding of the classification of metal glasses, know their differences, and choose suitable glasses during the purchase process!
